What works anymore?
Will putting where you will be performing on your website make anyone come to the concert?
No.
Does having a song on the radio get you any concert attendance?
No.
Does inviting someone to an “event” on FaceBook result in them checking “yes” and actually showing up?
No.
So, then Mr. Smarty-pants, what does work?..
All of this together
Did you know that statistically, it takes you contacting someone NINE times (and better, nine different ways) before they will ever respond?
It’s true
Here’s the way it might play out:
1 – someone sees an update by you on FaceBook – they see your name one time, probably don’t give it much thought
2 – you post a comment on their status – they may or may not respond
3 – you post a video of your group-they never watch
4 – they see an event invitation – “hey, that’s whatsisname”
5 – they hear someone talking about your band – they visit your blog
6 – they read some of the content of your blog.
7 – they see a flyer for a concert – “hm, that guy said he likes the Tennessee Titans too .. on his blog”
8 – they get go check out your Blog to read some more about you..
9 – you send them an email update about the show… and they show up that night.
Do you have a system for doing this yet? I want to hear about it

Good stuff, You’re right, it is a lot of work to get people you know to come out, but it seems easier to get people you don’t know to show up, as with our show last weekend. I invited everybody I knew on facebook, only 1 person showed up, only because I said he could sit in on a song or two, and we plastered the club with flyers. Luckly, the flyers worked because we wound up with a good crowd. I’d like to hear some of the others systems, cause we work for the door, and you know how that goes!!
Thanks for the comment Jay. We are finding that it’s all about real community. Fans are as interested in what you do OFF the stage as what you do while performing. Do you have a blog for the band?
Not really, it’s something I’m not good at and the others have such busy schedules it’s any wonder we have time to play. I guess I need to just do it, but where to start?
The key is to get them coming to a place that is YOURS (or the band’s).. and for them to do that, they need fresh content… it could be as easy as updating your blog from your cell phone with a picture.. or maybe the guys could (in between sets) talk about the set… right from your phone to your blog… [in my opinion] that would be a pretty effortless way to keep a blog updated.
Those nine statistics are very true. Ever since we started our Elevation ministry, we have been doing a lot of things to get in touch with people. We make some post cards promo videos, Facebook, and phone calls with our ministry to invite people to come hoping to get a more personal contact our invites. We also are working on some outreach ministry for the city of Anniston, AL. It has a 24.7% poverty rate, and has the highest crime level than any other city in Alabama. We have made a pray for Anniston video which we played at our last service to get more people involved, and God blessed us by allowing us to get a permit to have a prayer rally outside of city hall of February 6th and an interview with the principal of Anniston High School. The nice statics are great to learn and apply to use for an event. I really do appreciate your information. Because, we really want to share the love of Jesus to anyone coming to the services and the city, and your statics are great ideas.
Hey Colton, Thank you for reading, and especially for replying. Do you guys have a blog yet? It would be a good move to try to get people to check out YOUR site instead of trying to get them to “stop poking” their friends long enough to see what you guys are doing… I would recommend some kind of short video (maybe 3 min) on the main page of the site and a VERY CLEAR call to action
The call to action could be anything… donate, join us, stay informed etc.
Wordpress is a free website and very open ended as far as themes, plug ins etc… for now, you can try to get Elevation.wordpress.com and comment back with the link.
